Amid the vast ocean expanse, a grim testament to human impact emerges—an island of plastic, three times the size of France. This colossal mass, a chilling convergence of discarded waste, bobs in the currents. Plastic, once hailed as a wonder material, now litters the waters and suffocates marine life. Seabirds mistake it for sustenance, fish ingest its fragments, and the delicate balance of marine ecosystems falters. This plastic leviathan stands as a stark reminder of our throwaway culture, a persistent monument to negligence. Its existence calls for urgent global action, an awakening to the perils of unchecked plastic consumption, and a commitment to a cleaner, more responsible future. At least 70% of the plastic used in this shoot was collected by myself from the beaches and waterways around the UK. I wanted to use actual plastic waste to create a more authentic photo showing what it would be like floating amongst the island of plastic in the Pacific.
