Wedding

I knew I wanted to try and capture some dramatic images for this couple's wedding and when it came to the cake cutting I saw an opportunity. Behind the dance floor the DJ was setting up their lighting system and had brought two large spotlights which, after a quick conversation, they agreed to point at the cake. By exposing for the bright light, I was able to photograph the two beams of light, keeping the busy background shrouded in darkness and letting the cake -- and the couple -- stand out. I used an off-camera speedlite to add fill light from the front, which also had the benefit of freezing the glittery confetti in motion as it cascaded around them. I did a few test shots beforehand with some willing groomsmen and I'm so pleased with the result. Thankfully, so are the couple! Image was taken handheld at 26mm, f/5.6, ISO 2000, 1/160s. Basic colour and exposure correction in post only.
