Owen is a juggler. This is one of a series of tintype portraits of my contemporaries on the circus and variety scene. I want to celebrate them for bringing joy and astonishment to an otherwise ordinary world, to capture the uniqueness of these extraordinary people living on the fringes of society, shining a light on their enchanting world. These people are heroes and heroines to me, and so i chose to photograph them in the most enduring way possible by rendering them in pure, real silver using the wet plate collodion process from the 1850s. This is the testament I feel they truly deserve: to be immortalised in silver, held forever in the spotlight.
