Camera Settings: Manual Exposure, F9, ISO 1000, 1/2000 In March 2022, I went on an extreme expedition to one of the coldest places on earth. For three years I planned to visit Ellesmere Island, one of the last bastions on the planet, to capture some of its stunning wildlife. Travelling by snowmobile, it was a painful experience as temperatures on my mercury dipped below -50 degrees before adding wind chill. After reaching what was a wooden hut, I set up camp there and went in search of wildlife. I discovered a group of Arctic Hares and spent days photographing these stunning creatures. My finger and nose suffered some frostbite as a result, but the experience and thrill of spending time in their company made it all worthwhile. Early morning the freezing cold Ellesmere air casts a blue colour over everything, so I sat in wait for an Arctic Hare to look at me to create this striking portrait image while the rising sun rim lit the hare and ground beautifully.
