Ronald Morgan, Sen RBA, Hon ROI, East End artist (1936-2019). A significant and gifted painter of East End life in his studio at his flat in Bow, London. I made a series of a dozen portraits of East End artists loosely inheritors of the original East London Group - mostly working-class, realist painters active from 1928 to 1936 who depicted their surroundings in the East End of London. Morgan was a prolific and exceptional painter whose sparse flat in Bow was (literally) full of his canvases. He'd lived in the same flat for forty years and painted the streets of London constantly all of that time. The only room I could find any space to set up was his back studio and even then had to (reluctantly) use a wide angle to frame the portrait.
