Estancia La Peninsula, Patagonia
Canon 5DSR
Just before lockdown, I trained as an equine therapist, hoping to work with amazingly sentient horses to help teenagers. But photographing horses is my other great love. I'd seen so many hundreds of images of white horses taken by photographers in the Camargue of France and wanted to experience something different, that hadn't been photographed before. I visited Estancia La Peninsula, in a remote part of Patagonia - where native Criollo horses are bred for their amazing endurance. I walked miles on foot and found a beautiful river, where the gauchos could release the horses (free of saddles and riders) to truly run together as a herd. The sun rises quickly in Patagonia and the herd running was such a beautiful sight that I fought the urge to put down my camera and just watch with my eyes. I tried to catch the herd as best I could in the low light. Settings: ISO 2000, 98mm, f2.8, 1/1000 s
