Description

A close up view of a Rose Chafer (Cetonia aurata). When photographing insects, I really like to focus in on the details they might get overlooked with the naked eye. Whilst their striking, iridescence is always going to make these chafers eye-catching, I feel getting in close on just a part of the beetle really focusses the attention on the sheer range of colours as well as the amazing textures of the beetle. I wanted to create an almost abstract view, so focussed purely on the thorax and abdomen of the beetle. I took advantage of the fact that the beetle was stationary to take 5 separate images which I stacked to increase the depth of field, and bring out as much detail as possible.
