Description

Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip performing live at Bristol O2 Academy - I like to shoot quite tight at music events, which is the opposite of many music photographers - I really like isolating performers on stage with the aim of capturing interesting light and shapes. The reason this shot really stands out for me is because without seeing his eyes and with no instrument in shot you can still understand exactly what his focus is on, and get a real feel for his perspective of the world at that moment in time. I saw this shot coming almost as soon as the band started their show. His glasses had this fantastic reflection of the keys in front of him - even under time constraints of shooting at music events I had to be patient with this shot until I was happy with the positioning of the keys across the curvature of his glasses. With added splash of slime green light down his right side, I was really happy with how this shot turned out. The added bonus of this shot is that Hot Chip had been on my bucket list to shoot ever since I began music photography, as they've been my favourite band for over a decade - this was fantastic moment for me personally. Settings: 1/250 / f2.8 / ISO 500 @200mm - processed in Capture One
