Description

Conditions are terrible in Kutupalong refugee camp, Bangladesh where over 750,000 Rohingya now live. In the centre of the camp they are at their worst where a lack of roads and difficult terrain make it difficult for NGO's to base themselves and to deliver much needed supplies. As we walked through the camp the heat was almost unbearable. Without a breeze in the air and not a cloud in the sky we turned to climb another hill and there he was, this baby just sitting there in the cut out window of his family's bamboo shelter staring out at the world he was born to. There was no hesitation, I had to take a photograph. Seconds later he had moved and we continued our day and he continued his. I'm so glad I took the shot. For me, it really sums up the Rohingya refugee camps of Bangladesh - The face of a baby which all of a sudden seemed like that of an adult who has already lived most of their life. A scary but very real fact of too many people's lives.
