This image was taken to remember my children's emotions of the lockdown, which happened during the Coronvirus pandemic of 2020. I asked them how they found the experience and they both agreed they had been ‘‘Sad, lonely, worried and upset’’. I then created a series of images around these words. I wanted to show how we were unable to leave the house, so used the doorway and shot from above to show both the inside and outside of the house in the same frame. The rainbow doormat is a nod to the rainbow being a symbol of lockdown, and also the hope of being outside again. I asked my daughter to curl herself into a similar shape as the rainbow so that both halves of the image have a similar composition. Her simple coloured clothing on the inside is in stark contrast to the bright colours in the other half of the image to represent how tough it is to be stuck inside, and how wonderful it would be to go out again.
