Gatsby is my friend's rescued Bengal cross. It was my first time photographing a cat and he was a brilliant model (until we let him in the garden and he ran away). Gatsby was moving around a lot so I was holding the camera at his level and shooting from the hip. I normally use a wider aperture indoors but as I wasn't looking through the viewfinder I used f4 to get more in focus. I used a speedlight on camera bounced off the ceiling behind me to give more light. At one point Gatsby jumped on the coffee table and started stalking towards me, and I managed to grab this shot.
