This photograph was never planned, I was in fact carrying out an aerial survey of a large commercial building that caught fire. The purpose of this survey was to extrapolate information as to the overall safety of the remains of the structure before demolition. Whilst conducting the inspection I found it impossible not to see the beauty in what the fire had left behind. After my work was complete I set out exploring the charred remains looking for compositions that took on an artistic quality of their own. I chose to isolate sections of the building and groups of vehicles showing off the colours and textures of the fire ravaged surfaces. The apocalypse sprung to mind. This job left me with some emotional scars which I will struggle to push away. The sheer devastation of what fire can do is not for the faint hearted. Even though I was disturbed by my findings whilst working at this location I was addicted to creating pictures. This photograph is one of my all time favourites to date.
