Drone
Jodipan Village, Malang, East Java, Indonesia

My second submission from this incredible part of the world. The central town of Malang is a shock to the system if you've never been to a third world country before. Bird markets, flea markets litter the streets of Malang contrasted against the big corporations who have decided to settle there. We were lucky enough to be exploring Malang on Indonesian independence day and as we wandered the slums of Malang we came across Jodipan Village. I say we came across it we were searching for it as I had seen drone shots of this place and as soon as I saw them I immediately wanted to shoot it myself. We came across it and when taking the drone off looking at my screen watching the whole scene unveil before me left me pretty shocked. I've never seen anything like it. A rainbow of colours painted with a dank, bleak river running straight through the middle. Jodipan Village was never always like this. It was once a drab place lacking economic resources required to build a community. They were all about to be evicted when several event management students lent them a hand partnering with a local paint company and then proceeded to paint the whole slums a series of bright rainbow colours which has become a global attraction with people flocking into it every day to explore. Seeing as it was independence day everyone was happy laughing playing and all were very friendly. And we're hugely interested in our cameras, in a good way of course. Looking back on this photo it reminds me to cherish what I have and to never be ungrateful for what I have. After all if these kids and families can be as happy as they are having a tiny fraction of what I have then so can I
