Image shows B.R.F. troops passing along along the plains above Musa Qala in front of a mountain that they had christened 'Mount Doom' .BRIGADE RECONNAISSANCE FORCE (BRF) 52 BRIGADE 4/73 BATTERY ARE A SPECIAL OBSERVATION UNIT AND RAPID FIGHTING FORCE USED IN HELMAND PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN AGAINST THE TALIBAN. IN DECEMBER 2007 THEY CLEARED A SECURE ROUTE FOR A 400-VEHICLE CONVOY INTENT ON RETAKING THE TALIBAN STRONGHOLD OF MUSA QALA THEIR TASK DURING THE RESULTING BATTLE WAS TO CO-ORDINATE AIR STRIKES AND USE FIRE POWER IN SUPPORT OF U.S. TROOPS. OVER THE COURSE OF THIS OPERATION THE BRF UNDERTOOK THE LONGEST DESERT PATROL SINCE THE SECOND WORLD WAR ACCORDING TO THEIR COMMANDING OFFICER. PHOTO:PHILIP COBURN ©PHILIP COBURN 2007
