River walkway near the Hythe Imperial Hotel (wedding venue)
Sony A9 + Sony 85mm 1.4 lens + a prism lens from a pair novelty kaleidoscope glasses
I'm inspired by seeing life through different lenses and the creative options that can provide me with. A simple novelty lens allowed me to give this couple the intimate moment they deserved amongst the chaos of their big day. Just them, enveloped in love and light. This image was created very quickly as the couple's wedding was running behind schedule. The river walkway was looking pretty drab and I wanted to give them a magical image. I love using prims and the creative options they open up, I wanted to try a novelty lens I found online as I was excited by the possibility of what it could produce under the right circumstances. I could have held the novelty lens further away from my camera lens to provide multiple reflections, but instead I put the novelty lens right up against my camera lens, creating a burst of colour and just a slight reflection of the nearby tress. I loved how in the moment before they kissed, they were transported into a private intimate space that only a novelty lens and some creativity could produce. A special moment, captured in a special way. Wedding photography should demonstrate why the couple's day is special, it's our duty to bring our best selves and push the boundaries what wedding photography is. I hope this image goes some way to proving that. My settings were 1/500 f/2.2. My ISO was at 50 to draw in as much light as possible whilst maintaining sharpness. The shot was staged and shot in less than a minute and was the last shot before we had to go back to the venue.
