Canon EOS 1DX Mark II with Canon EF 500 f/4 II USM lens

Description

I spent a few days in Lincolnshire with a group of friends photographing the Atlantic seals. On this particular day we were able to get down to the shore line with the aim of photographing the seals on the waters edge. Within a few minutes light rain and wind turned into a strong storm, with sand battering us like a thousand and one sharp needles in our face! Many of the seals became totally hidden under a sheet of sand but I noticed this one just raising it’s head and looking up to the skies, gathering a short respite for the tirade of sand. The wind was so strong holding the 500mm lens was very tricky so I aimed to achieve as fast a shutter speed as possible, although changing settings was pretty tricky in the severe conditions! To achieve as much stability as possible I sat on the ground, with the lens on my knees – this enable me to hold the camera just above the blanket of sand created by the storm.
