I have sat at this particular sett many times over the last few years, occasionally you can manage a passable shot if the badgers make an early appearance. Thankfully on this occasion a few rays of light found their way through the dense summer canopy, backlighting the animal and giving a pleasing dappled effect on its green backdrop. The eye contact makes the shot here but the badger can’t see me, I am too far and too well hidden in the undergrowth, the shutter noise from the previous frame (all shot in single and silent mode) was enough for a glance in my direction. Shooting in such low light demanded a tripod, very low shutter speeds (1/160) a relatively high ISO of 3200 and wide open at f4.
