Ellie is featured in my UK photographic series Best Days Of Your Life, which strives to document and raise awareness of the alarming rise in adolescents being hospitalised due to self-harm and mental health issues, highlighting the emotional crisis that many schoolchildren face and the dialogue that needs to begin in order for a change in awareness, stigma and taboo to occur. Ellie aged 19, has suffered from mental health issues since her early teens, and has been hospitalised on many occasions over the years. Ellie, who also suffers from body dysmorphic disorder, bravely came forward to reveal her scars and show the history of her emotional pain, which she hopes will go on to inspire other young people struggling to cope. Agreeing to have her portrait taken in a studio and being part of the Best Days Of Your Life project, proved to be a pivotal point for Ellie, reaching a level of self-acceptance and allowing herself to overcome anxieties and feel comfortable enough to be photographed and inspire others to seek the help and support needed. Ellie continues to struggle with her illness but is planning to study Beauty Therapy and feels that she is able to take this next step in her life with more confidence. This portrait was taken with a Canon 5d Mk4 in a London studio. ISO 100, f/8.0, 1/100 105mm.
