Los Cedros Reserve in Ecuador
Nikon D200 with Nikon 600mm F/5.6 manual focus lens
A Crimson-rumped toucanet (Aulacorhynchus haematopygus) with a beetle it had plucked from the branch of a fern tree in the rain. I was lucky enough to be able to watch it hunting around for quite a while from a quiet secluded spot. Then when it snatched the beetle up it almost seemed palpably excited! This must have been a tasty catch! Taken whilst doing conservation volunteer work at Los Cedros Reserve in the Andean cloud forest of Ecuador. Nikon D200 with Nikon 600mm F/5.6 manual focus lens, 1/125s; F/5.6; ISO 400, no flash.
