Description

One of Justin Rumsby's many perennial pet hate's is supermarkets. As soon as Justin gets used to where his favourite food items are displayed, before long, they’re moved to another section of the shop. Being someone who doesn't like asking for help or assistance, he gets very frustrated by this “they constantly play around with the displays, I just hate it when they do this, and then there’s never anyone to ask where there’ve moved my cereal too.” So when interviewing Justin for my project, I needed to visualise this situation, working on my concept of fiction meeting reality, I wanted to recreate a staged version of just this situation. Once I had the correct permission from the store's HQ, I set-about putting this image together. Again with my other images for this project, I wanted the images to take on a different aesthete, I wasn’t looking for clean, light and bright images that I would have achieved if I shot the scene with strobe lighting. So I opted for LED continuous lights. Using this particular type of light source meant that I could direct my lighting accordingly, with the help of barn doors which I attached to each of the two LED heads, this gave the images a more nuanced overall feel to the finished look. Aiming to continue my philosophy of a Fine art documentary aesthetic, I was trying to install some texture to the scene, as to not make a reasonably uninteresting scenario look and feel prosaic or unimaginative.
